SKAI Hangul ("the app", "we", "us") is a Korean alphabet (Hangul) learning app operated by SKAI Buddy, an independent app developer based in the Republic of Korea. SKAI Buddy is the data controller responsible for the information described below. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, the legal bases for using it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the app, you agree to this policy.

1. Information We Collect

The app has no login or user account. We do not collect your name.

a) Anonymous usage data. We assign a random session identifier (stored on your device) that does not personally identify you. We record learning progress (chapters completed, in-game answers, ratings) and timestamps with basic device and app information.

b) Age range (anonymous). Before showing a rating prompt or the completion survey, the app asks you to choose an age range. Your choice is stored on your device and recorded with your anonymous session for analytics. It is not linked to your name or email. If you indicate you are under 13, you are not asked for an email and can keep using the app to learn.

c) Email address (optional). If you choose to receive launch updates, you submit your email through an external Google Form. We only invite users aged 13 and older to do this. The app itself does not store your email address.

d) Advertising data. The app shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect an advertising identifier and device information to deliver and measure ads. Where required by law (for example in the EEA and the UK), we ask for your consent before showing personalized ads, and you can choose non-personalized ads instead.

3. Legal Bases (EEA / UK Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases under the GDPR:

Legitimate interests — for anonymous usage analytics that help us improve and keep the app reliable.
Consent — for sending you email updates and for showing personalized ads. You can withdraw consent at any time.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Google Firebase (anonymous analytics and data storage)
Google AdMob (advertising)
Google Forms (optional email and feedback collection)
Resend (sending email updates)

5. International Data Transfers

The services above are operated by providers that may store and process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the EEA or the UK, those providers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses to protect your information.

6. Children's Privacy

SKAI Hangul is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information (including email addresses) from children under 13. Before any email is collected, the app shows a neutral age check; users who indicate they are under 13 are not asked for an email and can keep using the app to learn. Where ads are shown to users who indicate they are under 13, we use non-personalized advertising only.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at contact@skaibuddy.com and we will delete it. (Under the US COPPA and the EU GDPR; in some EU countries the minimum age for consent is 16.)

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@skaibuddy.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Anonymous usage data is retained only as long as it is useful for improving the app, and is deleted or anonymized further when no longer needed. To request deletion of your email or any data associated with you, contact us at contact@skaibuddy.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

9. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
